BATTLEFIELD KALI KNIFE PROGRAM

As sent to us via e-mail by David Rodgers from England on 07.07.09:
“I used to teach knife defense for years, but when I tested the techniques with real resistance I found that most of them worked poorly. I had given up on finding any ‘high percentage’ knife defense moves until Guro Burton Richardson showed me his simple, yet effective techniques from his Battlefield Kali single knife program. After teaching some students for just three hours, I tested the moves in real sparring with padded knives and helmets, and found that they worked extremely well. I teach my students to run if they see a blade- no technique will make you impervious to knives- but if you have to go unarmed against a knife; Burton’s methods would.”

“Burton really hits the details that I find make the difference between people that know/train an “art” and really knowing how to use a knife as a weapon….against someone. I have seen so much KRAP when it comes to knife/FMA so I get excited over seeing a functional product. Many of the details in the DVDs address the things I see in classes when people get lazy or are new.
One of the best things so far is how Burton does an excellent job of addressing small, but extremely important points about range that I see played out in sparring during class.”

“I know it’s probably preaching to the choir here, but I just have to say this. When Burton showed us the refinements he made to the empty hand vs knife techniques, I was blown away. It just made so much sense and made getting to the 2 on 1 so much… well, I don’t want to say easier, because you can never say empty hand against a knife is ever gonna be easy, but it really does make it easier to learn and to practice. It makes the odds that much better. And it’s clear from doing the drilling and watching others pick it up in class, that it is a tremendous breakthrough in technique. I just finished reviewing disc 6, and the details will improve this aspect of training so much. There’s a lot of talk on the internet about “knife defense is ridiculous because you’ll probably be ambushed and there’s no defense for that” “knife sparring doesn’t make any sense because when are you going to have a knife duel” etc., and all that various bullcrap. It’s like saying you shouldn’t learn how to box, because someone will sucker punch you. Or why learn how to handle guns, when someone will shoot you from behind… Well, obviously you can’t do anything about being ambushed or whatever. But you should work towards being the most prepared you can be, to protect yourself and your loved ones.
All LEOs and military should be studying this material. It’s the best out there.
This is probably the closest modern program to resemble the original weapon styles of the Philippines when they were truly battle tested, and all was pared down to the most effective techniques because your life depended on it.
Simply put, this material works.”

“Thanks for another great product in the Battlefield Kali Knife Program. The students have taken quickly to it, enjoying both the realism and the safety factor that the program stresses. Training in this manner has increased the students accuracy, speed, and footwork, not only in the weapons module, but in all aspects of training.”
